 Acetyl is a functional group with the chemical formula CH3CO. The group has a methyl group with a single bond to a carbonyl. Acetic anhydride or acetyl chloride are used for the formation of acetyls. Acetyls help the constituents of certain products to reach the brain faster and it is for this reason that acetyls are also used for drugs to ensure proper delivery of a drug to a patient.  With the ability of acetyls to help certain constituents to reach the brain faster, a number of clinics that work with prototype drugs in testing phases often utilize acetyls during testing purposes to be able to understand the results at regular intervals. Acetyls are now being explored for other applications across the board. The use of acetyl for the purpose of pain relief is one such new application for which acetyls are being used for today. The key product of acetyls that is expected to contribute the highest to the acetyl market is acetic acid. The market for acetyl is expected to be driven by new applications for which research is already ongoing with a number of universities and medical institutes investing heavily into the research for the same.
